Fix Your Desk, Save Your Spine: The Ultimate Ergonomic Workstation Guide

Is your desk set-up secretly ruining your posture?

With many of us glued to screens for hours, poor workstation habits are a major cause of neck, shoulder, and back pain. An ergonomically optimised workspace is not just a luxury, it’s essential for maintaining spinal health and overall well-being.

At Health Spot Randwick, we see these issues daily  and fixing them often starts with how you sit.

Chair Check: The Base of Good Posture

  • Choose a swivel chair with five legs & proper stability.
  • Feet flat on the ground (use a footrest if needed).
  • Knees level with hips, back straight, shoulders relaxed.
  • Add a small cushion for lower back support if needed.

🖥️ Monitor Magic: Eye-Level is Non-Negotiable

  • Screen an arm’s length away.
  • Top of the monitor at or slightly below eye level.

Bifocal wearers: lower the screen to avoid tilting your head back.

Keyboard & Mouse: Aligned for Comfort

  • Forearms close to horizontal, wrists straight.
  • Elbows tucked in, keyboard & mouse directly in front of you.
  • Keep your setup neutral to prevent strain.

🔄 Keep Moving: Don’t Sit Still Too Long

  • Change posture often.
  • Take short movement breaks every 30–45 mins.
  • Hydrate to encourage regular get-ups.

Stretch your neck, shoulders, wrists, back, and ankles daily.

Ergonomic improvements are a great start, but if discomfort persists, professional care is key.

At Health Spot Randwick, we offer:

  • Chiropractic for alignment
  • Remedial massage for muscle tension
  •  Acupuncture for stress & recovery
